Contextual Report
1. Introduction
This is a design project which really started with a toothbrush. The aim of this report is to describe my reasoning behind the objects I have and will design around this concept. I shall tell the story of how I got to the toothbrush and then why it means so much to my project work. This story will end with another story, the concluding story, which will fuel the rest of my project. Throughout this report I will be describing the process of how I reached the concluding story.
My journey began with ten words; childhood, fantasy, animation, puppets, toys, nostalgia, stories, teddy bear, and personification. Although not all these words became that relevant they lead me to finding personality in everyday objects. Although many of the words seem like they would lead to designing for children that is not what I want to do. I am interested in creating narratives around objects. Particularly everyday objects as they can seemingly become mundane. I want to open up a debate of how we value the objects we choose to surround ourselves with, the objects that make up our home. This report is an opportunity for me to evaluate people’s connections to these objects and celebrate their behaviour and influence on our lives.
